With varied works from Boëly to Widor, Susanna Veerman shows the tenderness and magnificence of this fine Cavaille-Coll organ. Her husband Wim Does joins her to perform a rousing transcription of Saint-Saëns’ famous Bacchanale. The organ was built in 1894 for the music room of the Baron de L’Espée. Though he enjoyed playing selections from Wagner operas late at night, his neighbors preferred quiet evenings and took legal action to preserve them. The baron then sold the organ, which was donated in 1909 to the newly built church where it recently celebrated 100 years of service. Having thus surrendered his house organ, the baron then contented himself with having another Cavaillé-Coll built for his country house. It is now the main organ in Sacré-Coeur.
