Poème Héroïque: Pieces for Organ, Brass, and Organ
Warmth, grandeur, and fine ensemble are all evident as the brass quintet Ottone is joined by Jan Vermeire, organ and Carlo Willems and Pieterjan Vranckx, percussionists, in arrangements of popular works made by Steven Verhaert. The album title is from Marcel Dupré, whose Poème Héroïque for organ and brass was written for the completion of the restoration of Verdun Cathedral in 1935 and in memory of those killed in the WWI Battle of Verdun. The 3-49 Woehl organ in St. Petri Church in Cuxhaven, Germany was built in 1993. It proves to be a superb partner in this nicely balanced recording.
