Carousel: La Réjouissance
Trumpet Consort Music from La Réjouissance with Organ Trumpets: Roger Payne, Director, Allen Handy, John King Organ: David Ponsford Recorded at the famous St. Barnabas Church, Jericho, Oxford, England and using the church’s 1975 Nicholson organ, this recording gathers festive baroque trumpet music from the French and English courts. The group La Réjouissance seeks to continue the trumpet consort tradition as found in the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe. For a modern listener, this simply means great fun in both raucous and dignified forms. The "Carousel" referred to is a choreographed balletic event performed by trained horses, their riders and a consort of trumpets.
