Thomas Trotter, renowned as Birmingham City Organist since 1983, when he succeeded Thalben-Ball, is also organist at St. Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey and a frequent recitalist in venues worldwide. Here he plays on an organ particularly suited to render the works of Elgar. The organ of Salisbury Cathedral, built by Father Willis in 1876-77, was considered by its builder to be his own finest work. With several mechanical rebuilds of the organ, Cathedral organists have carefully guarded and maintained the tonal integrity of the instrument and it still sounds as Willis heard it. Sonata for Organ in G Major, Op. 28 Cantique, Op. 3, No. 1 Vesper Voluntaries, Op. 14 Organ Sonata No.2, Op. 87a Chanson de Matin, Tr. Brewer Nimrod from ‘Enigma’ Variations, Op. 36, Tr. W. H.
