Grim Death

Choral Variations by Augustinus Franz Kropfeiter

Four chorales form the basis of this recording of readings and musical variations related to the theme of death. The pieces were written in 1961 and 1964. Dramatic and highly evocative readings of the texts are performed by Romuald Pekny before each set of variations. Two organists perform separately, but both play the 4-103 Bruckner organ in St. Florian’s Church near Linz, Austria. Andreas Etlinger plays

Ich wollt, dass ich daheime wär
Der grimmig Tod mit seinem Pfeil

Klaus Sonnleitner plays

Wenn mein Stündlein vorhanden ist
Ach wie nichtig, ach wie flüchtig German Language
