Lowell Ayars: Recollection
Playing on a 2-8 Wurlitzer purchased from a Wisconsin theatre and transplanted to his New Jersey home, Lowell Ayars recorded a series of selections for the British radio program Pedal, Percussion & Pipes. When Ayars died, the organ was to have been reinstalled in The Smithsonian Institution. Since this did not happen, the organ is now being installed in the Greek Room of the Philadelphia Department store formerly known as Wanamaker’s. In addition, this recording has four other organs to be heard: a 3-17 Wurlitzer in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania; a 3-19 Möller theater organ in Philadelphia; a 3-31 Möller church organ in Bridgetown, New Jersey; and a Kimball 3-8 theatre organ in Pitman, New Jersey.
