Marcel Dupré, Saint-Louis-des-Invalides, AAAMD 350302
L'AAAMD is pleased to announce the release of a new boxed set containing a DVD (97 minutes), a CD (68 minutes) and a richly illustrated 72-page booklet (English/French).
Our research has allowed us to discover completely unexpected documents dating, in particular, from 1934, the year of the appointment of Marcel Dupré to Saint-Sulpice. This exceptional release also draws extensively from the INA radio and television archives, the archives of Warner Music, and contemporary newspapers to document and contextualise in stunning detail Dupré’s inauguration in 1957 of the organ of Saint-Louis-des-Invalides.
Also included are numerous other notable broadcasts with Dupré from France and the Netherlands, and not least with recollections from Mme. Dupré and the exceptional testimony of Georges Cziffra, who knew the Master well, showing us the place Dupré occupied in the world of music; Cziffra also performs one of Dupré’s preludes for piano.
This box allows us to join Dupré both in concert and during liturgical services; an exceptional musician who wrote himself into the history of French music in the 20th century. We hope you will enjoy hearing and seeing Marcel Dupré again in the exercise of his art, from 1934 to 1970.
