McJad Goes Organic: Thoughtful Jazz for Organ and Trumpet
McJad is an acronym. It stands for the Melbourne Contemporary Jazz Art Duo, a collaboration of Keith Hounslow, Trumpet and Tony Gould, Organ, though a flugelhorn, cornet and piano also were important to the duo. The music on this disc is, with the exception of three ballads, improvised and shows the creative exchange possible when two accomplished players work adventurously together. The McJad Chronicles is a theme with 12 variations and a reprise of the theme, with the organ providing gentle support to amazingly intimate sounds from the brass. The three ballads, which follow, offer abstract perspectives on their respective tunes and more very musical ensemble playing. Also included is a free second CD with the duo playing in 1978 and 1980 and using a piano in less minimal style than the organ on the first CD.
