The birthplace of American organbuilding, where David Tannenberg became the first organbuilder to be trained in America and who was building organs by 1756, is explored by organist Philip T. D. Cooper. Long a devotee of the remaining examples of this superb heritage, Cooper samples four organs on this brand-new CD: two built by Tannenberg in 1787 and 1793 and located in his hometown of Lititz, the Dieffenbach organ built in 1800 and located in Reading at the Berks County Historical Society, and the 1852 George Krauss organ located at Old Norriton Church in Norristown. Repertoire includes works by Krieger, Kauffmann, Pachelbel, Rathgeber, Shaw, Zipoli, Latour, Fischer, Walther, Vetter and more, with samples from the fascinating and unpublished music books of Caspar Schaffner who lived in Lancaster and William Schoener of Reading.  1997.
