The Predigerkirche ("Preacher's Church") in Erfurt, Germany began in the 13th century as a monastery for monks of the Dominican order. It eventually became a protestant church with a long line of distinguished German organists, including Johann Bach (Johann Sebastian's great uncle), Johann Pachelbel, Johann Heinrich Buttstedt and Johann Christian Lebrecht Kittel. On this recording, the ancient building is filled with the sound of current titular organist Matthias Dreißig playing works of J.S. Bach, Pachelbel, Mendelssohn and Karg-Elert on the 1977 Schuke organ.
