Fred Hohman has done it again! This time he has recorded Charles-Marie Widor's absolute best excerpts from his famous symphonies including the Toccata from Symphony number five. Recorded on the 1927, 4-manual, 108-rank, Casavant-Schantz organ, Opus 1177 in Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church Mahtomedi, Minnesota. Widor became "temporary" Organist at Saint Sulpice, France in 1870 where he played the largest Cavaille-Coll organ. Even though this album was not recorded on a 19th century Cavaille-Coll the Organ at St. Andrew's has nothing lacking. The size and specification are a good fit for the music of Widor and the acoustic is rich enough to support his music, yet not so dense as to obscure its detail.
