It’s the worlds largest pipe organ. Well over 33,000 pipes, some as tall as 64 feet high. Built by the Midmer-Losh company, between 1929 and 1932, and designed to fill the massive Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ, the pipe organ proved hard to maintain through the depression and succumbed to leaks, building remodels, and time. The instrument is undergoing a restoration that will bring it back to full voice, after more than 50 years. These were the ultimate musical instruments, set in great musical palaces where everyone believed they would play forever, and it’s proving to be true.
