The proverb says "All roads lead to Rome." In Trier, everyone knows the opposite to be true: All roads come from Rome. During the Roman occupation around 290 AD the Konstantin Basilika was erected as a monument showing the power of the Roman Empire. After the destruction of World War II, a new organ (II/P/30) with mechanical tracker action and electric stop action was built in 1962 by Prof. Karl Schuke, Berlin. Paths, the title of the CD, is taken from the piece for solo trumpet by the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu and is thus related to history. Not only were the pieces recorded by the two musicians Markus Schwind and Martin Bambauer in the historical Trier Basilika, but they also document a closely woven net of historical relationships with each individual piece to be viewed as a link between eras, worlds, styles, spaces, and cultures.
