The Grenzing Organ of St. Francesc, Palma de Mallorca
$14.98
The Franciscan Convent church in Palma de Mallorca dates to 1281. Portions of the organ case date to the first recordied organ of 1543, subsequently rebuilt in the 18th century by Jordi Bosch and his uncle Pere Josep. After an unsuccessful 1956 rebuild the organ has been replaced with the work of Gerhard Grenzing, who has retained and restored the elements of the Bosch work still available. The organ is now 55 stops on three manuals and pedal and offers resources for performance of a great variety of organ literature. The present organ case dates to the late gothic, with a redesign in 1742 to include baroque features. Arnau Reynés I Florit is titular organist of the Grenzing organ, Professor of Music at the University of the Balearic Islands and has recorded a number of organs in the Balearics for Priory Records. In addition to works by J. S. Bach, Franck and Guilmant, Reynés has chosen several works written by Mallorcan composers to introduce the Grenzing organ.
