This domestic drama/comedy finds a venerable, blind organist terminated after 25 years service due to his “innocently priming himself” with drink before playing his service voluntaries. He is, without knowing it, succeeded by his daughter’s fiance, and their conversations provide part of the play’s comedy. Henry Arthur Jones (1851-1929) was a prominent playwright in his time, and a contemporary of Shaw and Wilde. With four characters and about a half-hour in length, The Old Organist will make a fine meeting program for many, and an entertaining read for the rest of us.
