Melbourne’s Trinity College Choir are fine ambassadors for the Antipodean voice. Their third outing on disc brings a fresh Australian take on folksongs culled from Ireland, Scotland and America, intelligently interlaced with new material. The result is a delight: a solid, flexible and fluid ensemble lit up by a supple melding of luminous high and strong, tender low voices and melting, close-knit harmonies. Solo contributions are equally strong. Highlights include Michael Leighton Jones and Frank Ferko’s arrangements of Irish and American folksongs, and John Rutter’s flute- and piano- accompanied re-working of Hoagy Carmichael’s Skylark. New pieces by Daniel Knaggs, Peter Campbell and Anthony Piccolo add to the pleasure. MICHAEL QUINN
