Hans Uwe Hielscher (b. 1945) completed his studies of church music at Detmold University, and further studies took him to Rouen and Paris and then to the Netherlands, where he trained as a carillonneur. He was appointed organist at Ev. Markt-kirche in Wiesbaden in 1979 and concertized around the world. This rhapsodie uses a number of Scottish folk tunes, including: Scotland the Brave, Annie Laurie, The Flowers of Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, Auld Lang Syne and The Hundred Pipers.
