Yun Kim: Wild Card
Yun Kim is featured on a new CD, Wild Card, on the Raven label (OAR-142). The recording features the organ built by Dobson Organ Builders at First Presbyterian Church, Battle, Creek, Michigan, in a program of works by Vierne, Brahms, Bach, Robert Ampt, Iain Farrington, William Grant Still, Prokofiev/Guillou, and Brahms. Included are four movements of English composer Iain Farrington’s Fiesta!; Australian organist Robert Ampt’s Concert Etude on an Australian Folk Tune, "Pub with No Beer"; William Grant Still’s Summerland arranged for organ by Edouard Nies-Berger; Sergei Prokofiev’s Toccata, op. 11, transcribed for organ by Jean Guillou; Vierne’s Les Cloches de Hinckley and Clair de lune from Pièces de fantaisie; Brahms’s Herzlich tut mich erfreuen, op. 122, no. 4; and J. S. Bach: Toccata in C, BWV 566a. Yun Kim, organist of Christ Episcopal Church in Dayton, Ohio, and organ faculty at Sinclair Community College, is a prize winner of AGO regional and national competitions and has adjudicated competitions at AGO conventions, the Fort Wayne National Organ Competition, and served as the Competition Coordinator for the Great Lakes AGO Region. She is past dean of the Dayton, Ohio, AGO chapter, has served on the faculty of three Pipe Organ Encounter programs, and has chaired the Dayton Church Music Workshop. The Dobson organ, Opus 45, incorporating the remaining ranks of the organ built for the church by E. M. Skinner in 1928 as op. 720, was completed in 1994. The resulting organ of 57 ranks on three manuals uses some other material from the previous organ as well as largely new principal choruses and other additions and entirely new mechanism to replace the altered Skinner windchests and later mechanisms added in earlier rebuilds of the organ.
